Makeup for kids! Yes or no?

When was the first time you applied applied for the first time?

Little girls as young as 6 years of age are applying make up these days to look "pretty". Heartbreaking!

I probably tried make up as a child, myself. Thats what my mother says. But it was a no-no from her side. And she prevented it from happening to an extent that, even now I have enough make only to fit in my tiny pouch.

A little girl I know, was over at my place a few days back. And she applied my lipstick. And used my mascara on her eyebrows. I don't really use much makeup so she didn't find anything more. This girl is 7 years old. She uses fair and lovely and she has a lipstick of her own. I sat and explained to her why it was not good for her to start using make up yet. I told her that fair and lovely is too harsh for her skin. I'm not sure how much of it she understood. But I did my bit.

My opinion: Makeup for kids? No way!

My sincere request to those around young girls. Keep makeup out of their reach. Both physically and mentally.

But of course, until the time is right.

Thanks for reading,
XO Ayesha

  1. I'm 18 and I know very little about make up. I actually am really comfortable with the way I naturally look and I haven't ever felt the need to use make up. I'd love to LEARN more about it, but I don't think I'd use it on daily biases. I'm a really very lazy person; I hardly ever use my BB and CC creams.
Also, I hate the concept of "Fair & Lovely". Us Indian girls have a great complexion. The only issue I have with my skin is tan lines. I love getting a tan, I hate tan lines. People from rest of the world are dying to have the caramel shade we have!

  2. Agreed. I don't think kids should use makeup. I mean they will need it their entire life later on so why not enjoy your natural beauty when you can? ;)

  3. I started at 18 lip gloss, blush and mascara never foundation until mid 20 yes no joke. When I was little my mom will buy me chapstick for I could keep away from her lipstick. I agree to early its not good and what are we teaching our children its not good for the skin or eyes. Great post.

  5. I totally agree with you. Kids just shouldn't be allowed to wear make-up, it's just so unnatural and bad for them as well. I've seen so many kids wearing make-up, it's just crazy! I still don't have many make-up I would say and I see very young teens to have far more than me!

  7. I think that if it's for fun, why not. but I wouldn't want them to make it a routine. Enjoy the fresh face youth years!

  8. I think its okay for kids to play with makeup, they only want to be like their mums, but its not okay for them to wear it out if you get what I mean? Your only young once and they shouldn't be encouraged to wear it at all. I use to try on my mums shoes and clothes, it didn't hurt infact I'm more immature than all my friends! ahaha. Only, I use to borrow my mums makeup and.. Apparently put makeup all round my eyes and my mum thought I had ran into another wall and got black eyes!! :o I only really wear makeup now when I'm modelling or catwalking :)

  9. I think that for the girls how want some make up, it's ok. But not so much... And the parents have to explain to her that she is beautiful without make up!

  12. I think I didn´t wear any make-up until I was twenty :) But I fear that some kids - although I think, too, that make-up doesn´t really good on young kids - some girls can´t prevent from make-up ...

  13. Wow! I agree with you too. Though I don't mind kids playing with make-up but purely for fun, not to go to school on or stuff! Yeesh what's next?!

  14. we totally agree. We never wore makeup until our final year of highschool. to be honest we never found the need. Not only is it a pricey hobby to have for young girls, but it really is unnecessary. Young girls should be encouraged to love and embrace their own skin, and even when they're older, makeup should be seen as a tool to enhance your features not cover up or change them!

  17. I started wearing make-up when i was in my 2nd year college, because before i only use baby powder when i was in high school. I think you should let the kids be if they want make up its okay, but not in school. anyways, thanks for the comment on my blog, i follow you now via gfc and bloglovin, hope you'll do the same.

  23. i was never into makeup as a kid and teen, plus my mother wouldn't let me wear it any way even if i was interested. i do remember her saying i could wear mascara in high school.i didnt start wearing makeup until i was 23 now at 25 i wear a tinted moisturizer mascara, tinted lip balm and blush, im still not that into makeup. but i dont think kids need to wear makeup and teens maybe a concealer for blemishes and mascara

  24. I think I started wearing makeup when I entered middle school thought that wasn't a lot. I don't even wear that much to this day.. eyeliner, eyebrow, conceloer and chapstick. I cringe when I see little girls on tv wearing so much makeup as I feel that is what makes girls today want to wear so much. It's scary because they should enjoy being kids!!!

  26. I don't think makeup is appropriate for kids. I started using eye shadows at 15. Young enough for this.

  31. Absolutely not!!! Kids should be kids and enjoy every second of their childhood. Maybe sometimes children's cosmetic for testing but not more.
