Yummy Salad in minutes

Everyone knows how important salads are. During ramadan I have made it a point to have a bowl of salad everyday. To keep my system clean in spite of all the ramadan food that is made. So, here are the ingredients I use.

All these ingredients have health benefits and are rich in vitamins, minerals and fibres!
Olive oil has essential fat, which is great for health and promotes weight loss.
Lemon has vitamin C and adds flavour to the salad along with sweet corn.
I made it a point not to add salt or other condiments because its high in sodium, causes bloat and because it tastes better without it.
You can add onion and radish and whatever vegetable you want to but don't add pasta or salad dressing. All it will do is mess with the health benefits.
Mix it really well.

This is how it looks after it is made!

Do try it!

To decide on investment on tablet Pc

A few months ago I asked my parents for a galaxy tab 2. Many of my friends told me to not buy it and so did my parents. But I still stressed upon having it. They bought it for me. Frankly speaking, I have benefited quite a bit from it. And I'm glad I didn't listen to them on this one!

Why should you buy a tablet PC?

  • It is more portable than laptop, better readability than phone
  • There are good apps that can be used for all purposes
  • Good for educational purposes- notes, video lectures, etc.
  • Mine can call
  • Can contain gazillions of ebooks. Now playstore has a huge collection of ebooks that can be bought and store. one can download a good reader(I love ALDIKO)

Why I bought Samsung Galaxy tab and not any other tab:
  • More affordable than Ipad (Although, Ipad is technically better) for Rs16000 it was a great buy
  • It has a good size of 7'', very handy
  • It had better reviews than cheaper tabs
  • Note 800 was too expensive. I really liked it, but I wasn't ready to spend more than 25k.
  • Did I tell you, It can make calls!
I will definitely recommend this for those with low budget. But if possible, go for ipad mini or galaxy note 800 or galaxy tab3.

So I didn't do as well as I hoped. But its okay. Its not the end of the world.I will give my papers for revaluation and work harder for the next time. Life is all about ups and downs and we should embrace our problems with dignity.
We can think about the good times to help us get through the not so good ones. I will take this as a lesson and work harder. Improve upon my flaws and learn from the mistakes I made this time.

An anxiety

The renovation work that was going on is finally over and now I've moved into my room. Its a great feeling to have slept in my own bed after such a long time. While that feeling was sinking in, I got to know that results are going to be out today. It would be out someday, right? Only problem is, I'm at a borderline situation where my 5 semester aggregate is 70.4% and I need to get a 70 to maintain that. I'm not very sure how I have done in my papers and that is giving me hell. A few more hours or minutes and it is going to happen. There is so much depending on these results for all the students who appeared for 6th semester VTU exams. I really hope for the best, that god will give me what we students need.

A void

How do you fill a void that's been left in your heart? End of a book series or a show, a person leaving, beginning of new era, end of the previous. Life can change when something like this happen. It got me thinking. How do we move on from something like this. Well, I'm not being fair when i say "a person leaving" and "end of a book series" in the same sentence, but its easier this way. They say get your mind on to something else. I say get your mind on to something else. But I'm just kidding myself and so are they. Because that void can never be filled. I still remember, when my friend from my colony left the city and went to another. We cried that night. A lot! She and I are still in touch but its left a void in my heart because it can never be the same. I stopped going on that lane for a very long time because of how I felt when I did. It was childhood friendship. I haven't seen her face for 2 years. And right now, I'd do anything to. It isn't like I haven't found other things to do. I have other friends. But no one can replace her, and no one ever will.

The same way, its not easy to replace someone or something. Especially if they have been a part of you, if they have had a hand in defining you. And those who try are just trying to kid themselves. The only way to deal with it, is, accept the void, learn to love the void, find ways to keep connection with the person or thing responsible for the void. And try not to move on from it, but with it.

How do you fill a void?

A cup of tea

I never liked tea. I'd always been more of a coffee person. Cold coffee, hot coffee, black coffee, filter coffee, instant coffee, just coffee. But thanks to pinterest and other fitness/health websites I've learned about the million benefits of green tea. So I decided to buy a pack and try it. I hated it! Really. I tried to put lemon and honey. While that did make it better, the taste really didn't do it for me. But still, I made it a couple of times more and thats when I realized it made me feel so good. My tongue didn't enjoy tea much, but my body did. I feel so refreshed when i drink tea. Which is why I decided to write a bit on it.

Some of the benefits that I have coined from other websites include:

1. Metabolism boosting power: Drinking 3-4 cups a day increases your metabolism and hence helps you lose weight. Awesome right?

2. Clearer skin: It helps flush out toxins and hence purifies blood. Makes the skin clearer.

3. Reduces chance of cancer: The antioxidant in green tea is 100 times more effective than vitamin C and 24 times better than vitamin E. This helps your body at protecting cells from damage believed to be linked to cancer.

4. Lower cholesterol: Hence lesser chance of heart diseases.

5. Anti-aging: Green tea contains polyphenols which helps to fight aging.

6. Memory boosting: Green tea helps slow down the process of reduced acetylcholine in the brain, which leads to Alzheimer's.

7. Stronger bones: The very key to this is high fluoride content found in green tea. It helps keep your bones strong.

How to make a cup of green tea:

Heat a cup of water to around 80 degrees Celsius(175 degree Fahrenheit). Add the green tea leaves or the pouch. Let it brew for 3-4 minutes. And top with lemon and honey if you want.

How I make a cup of green tea:

This is not the traditional way. But I just stated I love coffee. And I have a coffee machine. Well, I use that coffee machine to make a cup of tea. Its really very simple.

Put the tea leaves where you would put the coffee grounds. And do the rest as you would with coffee.

See! It really is very simple!!

Try it. And let me know how it goes!

Little things matter.

To live our life to the fullest, we need to observe little things around us. And sometimes they might just be our own little problems. As it is the little things that makes us happy, little things can also harm us if not treated at their "little" stage. The first step to solving a problem is acknowledging it. The next is to plan to overcome it, and final stage is to overcome it.

Why do we have problems at all? Sometimes its due to factors around us. But most times the reason is within us. We fret over small things, when we should actually be using them to be happy, grow, make a life out of them. We worry about things like missing a movie in the movie hall or weight issues while there are people who are missing meals and losing their lives.

While all our problems may seem big, do you think that going into depression or taking ones life seems like a solution? It is not! One should cry a little only to take it out and then face their problems with a smile. Because as Henry Ford says, "There are no big problems, their are just a lot of little problems"

I just read an article in Times Life regarding Fitspiration. But the truth is I have been using Fitspiration since I was much younger. Break it up, you get Fit+inspiration. Experts say that fitspiration can lead to healthy impact on your mind to act on your body.

source: pinterest

Fitspiration is meant for inspiration. Images of toned, lean bodies have a subconscious impact on the mind. It is about health, not just looks.

Pinterest boards provide a lot of fitspirations. There are pictures of good bodies, in clothes that help visualise a future of our own body as such.

There are bloggers who have started fitness blogs to inspire themselves and others.

This girl displays her blog on tumblr which she calls A work in progress.

How to use fitspiration :

Stay optimistic. Do not let it frustrate you. Fitness is not achieved overnight. You have to persistent and encouraged.

When you are working out and you are tired. Look at this, and think, believe, another minute, another rep and when you are done with that, go for one more.

Learn to say no. My weakness is pizza. And I really have to work on this attribute. Because ...

Hope you will use fitspiration to your advantage,

Crazy Busy

With the wood work coming to finish, the work has increased, and today went by just running behind the polish workers asking them to clean the marks, clean the polish off the floor etc. I spent the entire afternoon buying lights, switch boards and cupboards items like locks and handles. 2 more days, and white wash work will start and hopefully, I will move back into my room. Can't wait!! Renovations are hard! I've been living in the living room for last 2 months. And the last two days have been cold! And rainy. The rain is beautiful for some time and then it kind of gets to you. Hope we get to see some sunshine along with the rain in the coming week!

Affordable work out gears to keep at home

Working out can be excruciating. Making time to go to the gym or yoga class isn't always easy. But thanks to workout videos (youtube, yogadownload.com, dailyhiit )  and tutorials ( pinterest, collegecandy body) workout is never the same. There is a lot that can be done at our own homes.

Still, there are some equipments that are always helpful in making your workout at home better and more effective.

Yoga mat

Whether you want to do yoga or not, a yoga mat is always helpful. You can use a mat for circuit exercises, strength exercises, pilates and of course yoga! You can even use it as a cushion to dance on

And if you decide not to exercise, you can still use it to sit on the floor!

Dumb bells

They say you can't lose fat without weight training. But that makes it easy to pass off the gym. Saying you don't have time isn't a good enough excuse. That is why its always good to have a pair of dumb bells at home according to your requirement. I have one pair of 2 kg each. I use it for my arm work out...

A good pair of shoes

A good pair of shoes always come in handy when you want to take your workout outdoor. Sports or dance they go a long way.  They help in avoiding injuries, and giving you maximum benefit during and after the workout.

It is always better to invest on a pair of shoes rather than trying to save some money on it.

A good playlist

Music improves exercise endurance. It gives an extra push when the going gets tough. nuff sed!

Comfortable clothes

Whether you want to exercise in your pajamas or in decent tracks or yoga pants, its always important to be comfortable in them. You don't want tight clothing to restrict breathing and you also don't want them to be to loose.

Some nice things to have

Kettle bell: I've read a lot about kettle ball workout and how good they are. It would be nice to buy one and use.

souce: workout-kettlebell.com

Skipping rope: 10 minutes of skipping rope can help burn 93 for a 120 lb person. And its really cheap.

Hula hoop: This cheap article helped a woman to lose inches off her waist. So cool!

Good luck with your workout!

As much as I'd like flowers from someone....

... flowers from the root have just another appeal.

Here are some flowers from my mothers balcony garden, and I love how they are blooming away to glory! And aren't these any day far better than cut up flowers on a bouquet?

Well, I'm not saying I don't like flowers as gift. I got flowers from my friend for my birthdays and they were really special. But there were 3 flowers of different colours that signified love, friendship and peace. I still have those flowers pressed in a book.

If you really want to gift someone flowers, give very few, only to signify something. Make sure they show what you want them to mean. I object to people giving bouquets on a house warming party or for a wedding. They cost a lot and die in 2 days. Often the people who these bouquets are gifted to don't even care to put the flowers in water. And I think that is an insult to the flowers.

Squishy balls!!! (pun intended)

So these little marble like colorful balls can do so much for your home. They come in different colors. They are cost effective, low maintenance and really cute. I don't really know what they are called, and they are damn squishy and cute so I call them squishy balls!

They come in tiny packets in bead like structure. All you've got to do is put it in a bowl(preferably glass bowl) of water and in a couple of hours they will grow to size of marble after soaking in the water.

I got it at commercial street for Rs.10 on a packet. Later found the same in hometown for Rs.15. Basically you can find it in any home d├ęcor shop for really cheap and use them to color up any table you have.

Maintenance point:

You can use these for years,  provided you keep the water and the bowl clean. It is advisable to change the water every week. If you don't want to keep the standing water you can soak the balls in water and strain and keep them without water till the size begins to reduce.

If I could choose my career based on the shows I watch

Has it ever happened that your are watching some show and your mind gets involved so much that you wish you could be a part of it? Or the very least do what your characters do? It has happened with me! Multiple times! So many times I watch my character's jobs and fall in love with them. The lives, the money, the style makes me want to switch careers!

 White Collar (FBI Agent):

HOT people running around in suits, catching criminals, being criminals. Matt Bomer's character in white collar is so awesome. I mean, what can't the dude do? He can paint, forge signatures, do sculptures, copy seals!

Revenge (multibillionaire/ computer expert):

The ease with which he hacks into computers, or puts gps trackers on people just inspires me. Also, I'm studying to be an engineer and I really don't know how to do any of that. What I really want to be is a multibillionaire! Rich and awesome. (pun intended)!

One Tree Hill (Fashion designer ):

source: polyvore
If you have read my post pinspiration you will know, I love Brooke Davis! Her character was powerful, inspiring, and her dialogues were were wow! She started clothes over bros in high school and what happened after that was history.

Friends (chef/buyer):

Rachel gets to work at bloomingdale's first and then Ralph Lauren as a buyer and later marketing merchandise. She gets fancy discounts on everything and earns quite a bit.

Monica on the other hand becomes the head chef at a fancy restaurant. Since I'm a foodie, and have drooled over Monica's lasagnas so many times.

How to live life king size. Live it like Harvey Specter! He describes him self as emotionless, great yet fair. The emotionless characteristic has been debatable one if you ask me. He is the best lawyer, and he makes me wish I had studied law. And his character has been the most inspiring to me so far. He knows how to handle a client and he knows how to behave with his under links. He seems to be a good person too in spite of his quirks.
